Bonolive® is a natural ingredient based on olive polyphenols. This active ingredient is clinically proven to address post-menopausal concerns such as bone loss, joint discomfort, and blood lipids disbalance.
Mediterranean support for women’s health
Bonolive® is an olive leaf extract standardized for high oleuropein content, a powerful phytonutrient unique to the olive tree. Bonolive® has shown in various studies its beneficial properties, particularly in counteracting the risks associated with menopause.
Bonolive® is a patent-protected innovation and can be seamlessly integrated into dietary supplements, medical nutrition and functional beverages aiming to support women’s health during their menopausal journey.

Clinically proven benefits
The benefits of Bonolive® have been assessed in several clinical studies, which demonstrated its positive effect on bone, joint and cardiovascular health, as well as its strong antioxidant properties.
Bone health benefits
Bonolive® is clinically proven to improve bone health in post-menopausal women. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study proved that Bonolive has significant effects on bone-building cells (osteoblasts) and bone mineral density.
In this study, a 32% increase in osteocalcin levels (μg/L) was observed over 12 months. This finding was statistically significant, and it indicated that there was an increase in osteoblast activity (bone formation).
Furthermore, DEXA scans showed that women taking Bonolive® displayed protection of bone mineral density at the lumbar spine and a higher gain of bone mineral density at the femur neck compared to those taking a placebo.
Joint functionality
Bonolive® has been proven to improve joint functionality and mobility. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that was conducted in collaboration with Nestlé health science showed a significant (46%) decrease in knee pain after 6 months based on the KOOS (Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) as well as a significant change in knee discomfort while walking based on a VAS score (high pain group).
Blood lipid profile
In addition, Bonolive®, has been shown to improve blood lipid profile. Specifically, after 12 months, of supplementation with 250mg, a significant decrease in LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides were observed.
Consumer tested
The benefits of Bonolive® have been assessed in a consumer study, which demonstrated its positive effect on menopause-related symptoms in post-menopausal women.
Post-menopausal symptoms
In this consumer study, we investigated the effect of Bonolive® on self-assessed post-menopause symptoms in healthy post- menopausal women.
Self-assessed post-menopausal symptoms scores improved significantly after 14 days and after 28 days Bonolive® supplementation compared to baseline.
An improvement was recorded in self-assessed scores for feeling bloated, feeling anxious or feeling nervous, mood swings, energy, skin elasticity and skin hydration after 14 days and after 28 days of Bonolive® supplementation compared to baseline.
Mode of action
Bonolive® exerts its health benefits by promoting the differentiation of stem cells into osteoblasts and chondrocytes. As a direct effect, improved bone and cartilage homeostasis are observed. Moreover, because of this mechanism, the differentiation of stem cells in adipocytes is inhibited, lowering the storage of lipids in the body.
Focus on bone metabolism
Bone metabolism (or bone remodeling) is a lifelong process where mature bone tissue is removed from the skeleton by osteoclasts (a process called bone resorption) and new bone tissue is formed by osteoblasts (a process called ossification or new bone formation). These processes also control the reshaping or replacement of bone following injuries like fractures but also micro-damage, which occurs during normal activity.
In the first year of life, almost 100% of the skeleton is replaced. In adults remodeling proceeds at about 10% per year. As long as the bone-forming activity (absorption) is greater than the bone- breakdown (resorption), adults are able to maintain healthy bones. Many living cells present in bone originate from the same “mother cell”. These bone stem cells differentiate into different cell types: Osteoblasts (bone building cells), but also adipocytes (fat cells) or other cell types. Due to stress, inflammation and ageing this differentiation shifts to the production of more fat cells and fewer osteoblasts resulting in more fragile and fatty bones.
Superior Biovavailability
A study that assessed the bioavailability of Bonolive® showed a higher plasma level of olive leaf-extract-derived metabolites in postmenopausal women compared to premenopausal women. In addition, this study has also shown that Bonolive® has antioxidative effects as it lowered plasma MDA levels, a marker for oxidative stress.
